RALPH Releases a Real One with Gasoline

RALPH is back with a heartbreaker. Buckle in.

Pop singer-songwriter RALPH dropped a new single this week, giving us all a taste of raw imposter syndrome in love with Gasoline.

This isn’t the vibey disco-pop jam that Tommy is. This is more Rules Of Love if you’re looking for a previous release comp from her 2021 EP, GRADIENCE. And, because we loved Rules Of Love, Gasoline shouldn’t catch us off-guard. But here we are, all up in our feelings.

RALPH’s ability to be open and vulnerable in her pop music has always been a welcome yin to her dance jam yang. And with the piano playing, her heart on her sleeve, and lyrics that are relatable to a lot of us… she hits the bullseye again with her first release of 2022.

In an Instagram post accompanying the release, she says, “This song is deeply special to me and has been since the moment @riaisawake (Ria Mae) @haydenwxlf (Hayden Wolf) and I wrote it 4 years ago.” she adds, “I almost let it die in the demo cemetery, but there was a feeling in my gut that it deserved so much more.”

RALPH performs in Toronto at Mod Club, December 2019

We’re certainly glad for RALPH’s gut feeling about this one. And it’s a lesson to every creator and artist, don’t throw anything away that you’ve poured yourself into. Maybe you just need to let it simmer for a while until the time is right.

Gasoline is hard because it lets you in. It’s hard because it holds a mirror up to your own feelings. But the hard is what makes it great.

Music is special like that.

Over the last 5 years, we’ve been watching and listening as RALPH has worked her way down the path as an artist and performer. We’ve listened and re-listened to albums and EPs and watched videos and gone to shows. And if this is the start of 2022 and the continuation of that journey for her, and us as listeners, we’re here for it and wherever it goes next.

We recommend that you buckle up and come for the ride too.

But first, hit play and listen to Gasoline.

Enjoy!
