New Music Spotlight with The Dirty Nil, The Beaches, and More!

New Music from The Dirty Nil, The Beaches, MacKenzie Porter, Dan Davidson, and Kimberly Perry

The New Music Spotlight is here with a rock / country split – so get ready for it!

We’re 80% Canadian this week, plus a comeback I didn’t know was coming. Surprises are fun.

Hit play from start to bottom. Give your favourites a follow. And remember that sharing is caring – so if you really love one (or more) of these songs, tell a friend and tell them to tell a friend, and spread the joy of good tunes.

Ready? Let’s go!

Artist: The Dirty Nil
Genre: Rock
Fans Also Like: PUP, Direct Hit!, The Flatliners
Song: Celebration
Notes: The Dirty Nil have become one of our favourite Canadian rock bands. They’re loud, they’re sweaty, they’re great live, and they produce bangers. Celebration comes out of the gates with rock and roll guitars, brings in Luke’s vocals to lead the show, and gives us nearly 4 minutes of pure, unadulterated, unfiltered rock. Atta be fellas!

Artist: The Beaches
Genre: Rock
Fans Also Like: Dear Rouge, Said The Whale, July Talk
Song: Blame Brett
Notes: From The Beaches themselves: “Blame Brett is a song about being promiscuous after a breakup and that that is totally OKAY.” It’s a romp. It’s going to connect. It’s going to jam live this summer. It’s another gem from this Toronto band that we’ve been tracking since 2016.

Artist: MacKenzie Porter
Genre: Country
Fans Also Like: The Reklaws, Madeline Merlo, Alee
Song: Chasing Tornadoes
Notes: We’re here for a new MacKenzie Porter song every time she decides to drop one, and Chasing Tornadoes is no different. As her star gets bigger and brighter south of the border, we keep that “she’s one of us” pride and sing along as she goes. This new one gives us a chance to sing, to bop our heads and get into the groove and here’s hoping there’s more coming to go with it.

Artist: Dan Davidson
Genre: Country
Fans Also Like: Jojo Mason, Andrew Hyatt, Hunter Brothers
Song: If These Streets Could Talk
Notes: Dan Davidson has always been one of our favourites, and here he is with another track we’re all in on. It’s a one that got away song. It’s a small town return song. It’s a country song. It’s a going to be great live. And Dan Davidson continues to pop out songs that make me tap my feet from the very first listen.

Artist: Kimberly Perry
Genre: Country
Fans Also Like: The Band Perry, MacKenzie Porter, Cam
Song: If I Die Young PT 2
Notes: Kimberly Perry coming back with If I Die Young PT 2 has me shook. I didn’t know it was coming. I wasn’t ready for it. And then when I had my first listen, I almost cried. The combination of memories that the original song brings back, paired with the new spin, the more grown-up reflection on life, the whole thing, it got me. With a new EP on the way, Kimberly Perry is going to have the chance to show us what she’s feeling, what she’s been working on, what comes next. But for now, we’re taking one step back and one step forward at the same time… and I’m here for the ride.
