The fact we start with such a massive name like Prince proves choosing only five Super Bowl halftime shows was more challenging than it sounds. Prince rocked the world with his halftime show in 2007; in the 16 years since there hasn’t been a show able to top it.

The music icon gave an electric performance, giving us classics like We Will Rock You from Queen and Bob Dylan’s All Along the Watchtower track. But the biggest cheer of the evening was for Purple Rain.

If anyone’s in a position to challenge Prince, it’s the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. MJ rocked the halftime show in 1993, and it’ll go down in history as the most important ever. It’s worthy of being named the best halftime show ever seen, but not everyone agrees.

Regardless of your opinion on Michael Jackson’s performance in 1993, it was a monumental appearance as it paved the way for a new style of halftime show. Out went the marching bands and local colleges, and in came big-name sponsors and star attractions like Jackson.

When the NFL announced that Super Bowl 2022 would be in Inglewood, California, who else would they call? There would’ve been an uproar if the stage weren’t reserved for Dr. Dre and his friends to throw a party. Thankfully, music and sports fans both got what they wanted.

Dr. Dre joined an all-star Hip-Hop cast on stage, including Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J Blige, 50 Cent, and Kendrick Lamar.

U2

U2 isn’t a band that does too many corporate gigs, even in their prime, but we’re delighted they agreed to cover the Super Bowl 2002 halftime show. Just a few months after 9/11, emotions were running high.

Beyonce

Another with an exciting past relating to the Super Bowl. The Queen of Pop appeared in 2013, and that performance launched her career. She was a big name before the halftime show, but her efforts that day ensured she was a global sensation.

Many performers promised to shut down the Super Bowl, but Beyonce managed just that. After leaving the stage with her friends from Destiny’s Child, there was a power blackout lasting more than 30 minutes.
