Miracle: The Darcys at WayHome 2017

Sometimes things don’t go quite as planned… but they still go really well. If you need an example, look no further than The Darcys tearing it up on the WayBright stage at WayHome 2017.

Just five days before the Toronto twosome came to Oro-Medonte to play the festival, Jason was hit by a car while riding his bicycle. The resulting fall cracked his helmet and left him with a twice broken arm, not ideal for a guitarist. BUT, the band moved forward with their WayHome plans. They got their palm tree and over-sized inflatable pink flamingo ready, and Jason picked out a sparkling gold sling for his arm, and the show went on.

With guitar tracks loaded and ready to go, The Darcys powered through their sun drenched afternoon set, with fans standing and sitting in the field around the stage, and singing and dancing as the songs in the set played out around them. Tracks including Studio City, Arizona Hwy, Black Diamonds, San Diego 1988, and Miracle sent a groove through the crowd, and a vibe that was happy, and positive and reflected the new sound from the band perfectly.

Jason and Wes both worked the crowd, bringing everyone’s hot and sunny afternoon together during the 30 minute set. Hell, Jason even gave everyone a chance to sing an old favourite, Ginuwine’s Pony as the lead in to San Diego 1988. And honestly, who doesn’t love belting out the chorus to one of 1996’s most lasting hits?

The Toronto duo were gracious, entertaining, and on point from start to finish… and it was appreciated by the crowd. We only wish they could have played longer.

During the set Wes also offered some advice to the fans, echoing his words to me during our interview earlier in the week… take care of each other, pick each other up, and drink lots of water.

Oh, and Wes was right, a nice cold Palm Bay would have paired perfectly with their music under the hot Saturday sun.
