Forever And Ever – Introducing Chyenne May

Chyenne May‘s young career in country music is just getting started, but she’s already well ahead of schedule as a teenage singer-songwriter.

The Vancouver, BC starlet has released her debut single, Forever And Ever, and we caught up with her on the phone to talk about the song, her start in music, and more while she was in Toronto on a media tour. As we spoke, the youthful excitement of May flowed through the phone and put a smile on our face. Truly, hearing the genuine love/ excitement/ passion/ etc. from an artist when they talk about their career is one of the best parts of any interview. And Chyenne May has that.

While we were on our call with Chyenne, we got her to play a round of 5 Quick Questions with us. Hit play to learn who she loves to listen to, who she’d love to duet with, and more!

Chyenne started the musical part of her life early. She told us that she began playing the piano at two-years-old, picked up the guitar a couple years ago, and then when she turned 10, she was given voice lessons as a birthday present. From there things kept moving forward, her lessons continued at Studio Cloud 30, where she started writing.

To see someone so young, already with a grasp on her talent, is amazing. Then to learn that Forever And Ever is the first song that Chyenne May wrote is astounding. We’ve talked to a lot of artists and songwriters, and the common thread among them is that their first songs weren’t good. They certainly weren’t worth recording and releasing to the world. But here’s Chyenne doing exactly that.

During our time, we asked about the release of her first single, and what her coolest moments have been so far. Chyenne told us that going to school on Friday as the song was released was pretty cool. She said that her classmates knew that she sang, but other than her closest friends, nobody had heard the song. She added that seeing Forever And Ever climb to #63 on the iTunes country chart was also special for her and the song.

When we asked about her influences in music, Chyenne mentioned four women with county and pop backgrounds: Carrie Underwood, Beyonce, Taylor Swift, and Madeline Merlo. We talked about the range in the music that those artists create, and when we look at them, it’s no surprise that their work has had a significant influence on this young singer-songwriter.

Before we wrapped up our call, we asked Chyenne what was coming next for her. She told us that she’s working on more new music with an eye towards an EP or album before the end of the year. She’s also planning live shows in the Vancouver area to share her songs with country music fans. And, she’ll continue to grow as an artist, songwriter, and performer.

Chyenne also told us that the best way to keep up with what comes next is to check out her website and follow her on Facebook and Instagram. We’ll be watching!

Thanks again to Chyenne May for taking the time to chat with us. We highly recommend you keep an eye on this young Canadian talent.
