Emotional – Introducing Michelle Treacy from CTV’s The Launch

Ottawa’s Michelle Treacy became the sixth, and final, chosen artist on CTV’s The Launch season two, this week. Her performance on the smash single, Emotional, put her above the rest and has earned her the 12th spot in the series’ run, and a chance to jumpstart her career.

The episode brought up the biggest moment in Michelle’s musical life before The Launch when we saw a brief clip of her time on stage with Lady Gaga in Montreal from a few years ago. A lot has happened since then, with a record deal, a few singles, and then the chance to come to Toronto to audition in front of Scott Borchetta, Marie-Mai, Bebe Rexha, and producer Nile Rodgers.

Michelle (like the Beatle’s song) told us that she was the first to audition for the panel, at 8 am, and that was the start of everything we saw on episode six of season two.

If you haven’t heard Emotional yet (or if you just want to listen to it again because you love it), hit play!

One of the standout moments in the show came when Michelle got up on stage for her live performance. Her crowd work was the most involved and energetic that we’ve seen in the series. When we brought that up, she told us that performing is her place, her strongest skill, and it’s clear that she loves it too. More sets, more songs, more time to hone those skills and build herself up, and Michelle Treacy is going to be a force to be reckoned with when she plays live in front of hot crowds.

Michelle also spoke to us about the recording process, and told us that working with professionals with the talent and accomplishments like the team on Emotional is easy for her, because she’s not afraid to try anything. Any suggestion they had, she went for. And in the end, the result is the track that you stream online and hear on the radio.

We also asked Michelle about what comes next, and she revealed that she’s been working on new music. Pop with a funk, upbeat, higher energy spin that what she was doing in the past. Emotional fits with that, it’s become part of the plan, and if you’ve heard the song and love the song, you should be keeping an eye out for what this emerging pop star does in the future.

By the time we had the chance to meet up with Michelle on Thursday afternoon, she’d already been through countless interviews, phone calls, appearances, and she had more to do before hitting the TV studio to work on episode seven (the wrap-up show). With all of that going on, it didn’t surprise us to hear that she hadn’t had a chance to really take it all in yet, get back to messages or even rest. She did say that she hoped her friends and family understood that she wasn’t answering because she didn’t have time, not because she didn’t want to. We’re sure they did.

Before we wrapped up our time with Michelle in the Bell Media offices on Queen Street W., we took a couple of minutes to play a round of 5 Quick Questions. Hit play to see what album she’s reaching for on a road trip, where she wants to go on vacation, and more. Enjoy!

Big thanks again to Michelle Treacy for hanging out with us for a chat, photos, and 5 Quick Questions. Stay tuned to see what the Ottawa native comes up with next!
