Lady Antebellum Secret Session in Toronto

On a rainy Thursday night in Toronto, a small room held some big excitement as Lady Antebellum hit the stage in Liberty Village to play for a small crowd of fans and industry members.

The superstar trio was in the city promoting their new album, Ocean, and iHeart Radio’s Pure Country team brought them to this intimate secret session for a little Q&A hosted by Shannon Ella, followed by a six-song set that included tracks from the new record and big hits from the band’s catalogue.

We never ever get tired of small-room, small-stage experiences. Whether the band is big or small, new or established, there’s something special about being just a few feet away and really feeling every note and word of the music. But when it’s a group like Lady Antebellum with #1 albums, #1 singles, ACM, CMA, CMT, Grammy Awards and more on their resume – it’s extra special. On Thursday night, Hillary, Charles, and Dave were charming and engaging with their Q&A answers as well as their introductions and banter between songs. They sang beautifully (as expected) and reminded us all of just how talented they are.

The mini-set included three songs from Ocean, with lead single What If I Never Get Over You (currently at #7 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart) joined by Pictures and Crazy Love. All three songs sounded wonderful and we could see and hear people singing along just a week after the album release which is always a good sign for the band.

What surprised us in a good way, was the inclusion of You Look Good, Need You Now, and Downtown in the secret session setlist. We are used to artists playing the new stuff when they are on promo tours like this. They share the new songs and talk about how much they love them and thank fans for supporting them. Lady A did all of that, but by adding massive hits that the fans in the small room know and love, they truly connected with them and gave them something special to remember.

We’ve heard louder sing-alongs to Need You Now. We’ve been in bigger crowds for Lady Antebellum concerts in Toronto. Heck, we’ve been in bigger crowds in the same room we saw Lady A perform in on Thursday night. But what has always been special about stripped-down performances in intimate spaces filled with people who love the music and the artist on display is an X factor that can’t be dismissed.

If you haven’t listened to Ocean yet, we’ve got a stream for you in this post. Just hit play.

And this is our reminder for you that when you get the chance to see Lady Antebellum live, you should do it. We’d add to that, if you get the chance to see any artist in a small setting with great fans, you should do that too, it’s awesome.
