Dixie Chicks Make Big Return with Gaslighter!
The Dixie Chicks are back, baby!
After hints and teases and talking, the beloved country music trio have made their official return to the scene with their new single, Gaslighter, and we’re happy to see it.
Oh ya, in related news, Dixie Chicks have also made it official, Gaslighter the album will be released on May 1, 2020. The album is listed as a 12-track release with the title track sitting in the number one spot. No other song titles have been revealed as of the time of this post being written.
The song is no holds barred, take no prisoners, ass-kicking, no apologies fire
Hit play on the official Gaslighter music video now to see and hear it for yourself!
The song is no holds barred, take no prisoners, ass-kicking, no apologies fire from Natalie, Emily, and Martie. They go all-in and instantly remind everyone that they A) aren’t scared. B) won’t be quieted. C) don’t mess around.
We’ve already seen some reactions on Twitter have supposed that the song is about Trump and the current political landscape – but this one is more personal. All signs (and lyrics) point to the gaslighter in question’s identity being Natalie Maine’s ex-husband. Their separation and divorce has not been friendly, but now that it’s over, she’s not holding back. That’s not to say that there isn’t a heap of gaslighting present in politics, and maybe DC and co-writer/producer Jack Antonoff may have had that in mind as well, we’d say it’s a distant second place.
Note: In my excitement to talk about the Dixie Chicks’ comeback, I have typed and deleted more than a handful of expletives while writing this post. Imagine an f-bomb or three in here wherever you think they’d fit best.

Aside from the flames that shoot out of the lyrics and emotions, we’re also welcomed back to the sweet sounds of the Dixie Chicks’ harmonies. There’s a reason we have loved slow songs, bangers, and everything in between from these women over the last two-plus decades, and it’s because they sound so very perfect together. And 14 years after they last released new music, they’ve still got it.
So, what are the takeaways?
1) We are excited and happy to have Dixie Chicks back in our lives with new music.
2) Gaslighter is a banger and I’ve listened to it five times (or more) by the time you are reading this.
3) Natalie, Emily, and Martie are unafraid when it comes to saying what they need to say, singing what they need to singing, and expressing what they need to express.
4) The trio is quoted as saying, “we knew right away this would be the sound of the album.” when talking about the lead single and the upcoming album.
5) The Gaslighter album is less than two months away, and we want it already.
