Some weeks there’s more new music we love than we can fit into one New Music Spotlight post – so this week we’re here with a second offering of songs for you to enjoy.

Notes: Morgan Wallen is one of the most exciting new artists in country music right now and with More Than My Hometown, he’s giving himself another real good chance to get to the top of the charts for the third time (and the fourth in Canada). The Tennessee native sticks to his signature country sound as he rolls through the song explaining all the ways he loves the girl… but not as much as he loves where he’s from. If you’ve ever loved a place and felt like it was part of you, he’s singing to you.

Notes: Classified’s Good News opens with the line “I’ve been waiting on some good news” and my immediate thought was ‘haven’t we all’. The Canadian hip hop heavyweight is joined by Nova Scotia’s Breagh Isabel on the track, and it’s a great fit. Isabel’s voice is sweet and smooth, the beat begs for you to nod your head and/or tap your feet, and Classified gives us everything we expect and enjoy when his verses come through. “It’s about time for some good news.”

Notes: Girls And Beer is a good time, forget about the world, smile a lil bit, crack a cold one and sing along song. And you know what, that’s totally okay! Sometimes a song needs to be exactly what it is and this one is a fun one that’s also a little sweet in its way too. Notes: FIONN explain their new song Mattress On The Floor pretty well with this quote, “Mattress on the Floor is a song about the highs and lows of youth. One minute you feel like you’ve hit rock bottom, and the next you feel like you’re having the time of your life and never want to leave the second-hand springy mattress in your tiny rented room. Being young comes with a lot of mixed emotions, and it’s funny how we coast along feeling happy and heartbroken at the same time. We wanted to put together a group of clips that could all tell their own story and represent the feeling of being young, lost, confused and in love.” The song is a lot of fun to listen to, and it’s another one that is going to get ears on FIONN and make sure more people are listening to the BC sisters.

Notes: Chicago’s Til Morning are in with their fifth single of  2020, and they’re on a roll that’s picking up steam with Okay. The Illinois foursome embrace the pop-rock sound that brings us double guitars, uptempo rhythms and vocals (with the sad little drop and subsequent scream for emotional effect) that makes them who they are.
