The El Mocambo is Set to Open with Big Wreck Headlining!

The El Mocambo is reopening its doors for live music.

It’s been around five years of renovation, and millions of dollars have been invested, so expect an incredible reimagining of the venue. In November of 2018, we attended the official relighting of the neon palms sign, and in early March of this year just before the music ended in Toronto, we there to witness the preview of the revitalized El Mo. And now it’s your turn.

The iconic venue will reopen the doors to the public on September 10, with a live concert event featuring headliner Big Wreck, presented by Jim Beam in association with Wahlburgers, Nobis, and powered by Mogo.

The El Mo initially debuted its top of the line systems on Canada Day, when they welcomed the City of Toronto’s Canada Day 2020 celebration.  The show included Kim Mitchell, July Talk, Next Generation Leahy, singer-songwriter, actor and speaker Jully Black, Hip Hop artist Haviah Mighty and the legendary Gordon Lightfoot.

The September 10 performance will be live-streamed from the second floor of the El Mocambo (Under The Neon Palms), via streaming partner Nugs.net. This is the first streamed show for Big Wreck, and the official live show promoted by the El Mocambo.

Toronto remains in Stage 3 and thus, only allowing for a small audience.

“As the world continues to adjust to the new reality of social distancing under the newly announced stage 3 regulations for live music venues, the El Mocambo is in an elite position to provide a new, innovative and engaging alternative for concert goers and audiences around the world. The iconic venue – wired to deliver music to fans and audiences globally, boasts three acoustically tuned performance areas (“The Starlight Room”, “Under The Neon Palms” and “VIP Balcony”) – each with their own entrance/exit and washroom facilities, state of the art video, audio, lighting and production capabilities in addition to the highest safety standards in terms of building construction and under the current public health and safety regulations.” – Red Umbrella PR

“During these unprecedented times we need to unite together to support everyone in our communities,” shares Michael Wekerle. “Music is a thread that unites us all and we are working closely with artists and their team members to bring new and meaningful experiences to music lovers, in new ways – safely. Myself, and my team are encouraged to continue to innovate, and work to create solutions that work to support artists, fans, communities and the entertainment industry at large. I am hopeful that with continued collaboration we can all work to sustain a healthy and thriving entertainment sector, and to ultimately keep live alive.”

The El Mocambo is one of North America’s longest-running and most iconic music venues, where I spent much of my misspent youth.  There’s a big hunk of nostalgia attached to this club for me. It started its life off as a fine dining and dancing establishment in 1948. It morphed into of a rock ‘n’ roll hot spot, attracting some of the biggest names in the music industry including The Rolling Stones, Elvis Costello, Blondie, Ramones, Meatloaf, Stevie Ray Vaughan, U2, and many more.

You can purchase access to stream the event in standard ($14.99) or 4k ($19.99) definition. Tickets will be available via nugs.TV at http://2nu.gs/BigWreck. More details and information will be forthcoming, check out the El Mo’s links below.
