8 Don’t Miss Artists at Canadian Music Week 2023

Canadian Music Week is getting ready for 2023, and Toronto is getting ready for CMW. And if you’re getting set to strap on your wristband, you need to start your planning!

Artists, showcases, and big shows will be spread out at venues all over the city from Monday to Saturday. It starts early and goes late. And we mean late. So find a way to nap or get some extra caffeine and pick your spots. It ain’t easy, but it’s a whole lot of fun.

One of the very best things about Canadian Music Week is the opportunity to see artists that you’ve never heard of, and having them capture your heart, blow you away, make you dance, or any combination of those things and more. Yes, a chance to see a superstar like Scott Weiland is something we’ll never forget, but we’ll also never forget seeing JJ Shiplett for the first time, late, late at night in the beloved basement Dakota Tavern.

To help get you set for 2023’s CMW, we’ve got a list of 8 artists at 7 shows at 7 venues that we are stamping as recommended. Some will play longer, some will play shorter. But we think all of them should be on your list. Now, with that said, this is a festival and you’re going to have to make some scheduling decisions, and we haven’t really done a perfect job of making that easy on you with this list. Sorry ’bout that.

The names we’ve listed are alphabetical, A to V. It’s pop, rock, country, and it’s 8 entertaining options for your CMW 2023 diary.

Have a look, have a listen, dig a little deeper, and if you find yourself out and about at Canadian Music Week 2023, check them out.

8 Don’t Miss Artists at Canadian Music Week 2023

Amanda Frances

Wednesday, June 7 @ The Drake (1150 Queen St W, Toronto)

Amanda Frances has taken us on a ride over the last few years that lead us to the 2023 EP, attachment theory and now a Wednesday night set at Canadian Music Week to show off her sound and songs and experience. Enjoy!

ANNIKA

Tuesday, June 6 @ Bar Cathedral (54 The Esplanade, Toronto)

Country music fans know ANNIKA for her powerful voice and emotional connection through her sound. It started with Leaving Thomas, and continues now on her solo journey with tracks like I Really Don’t Want To and Strangers. She’s got it. A lot of it. And you don’t want to miss it!

Badflower

Thursday, June 8 @ The Axis Club (722 College St, Toronto)

On a Thursday night in the city, you’re going to have a lot of choices, and we suggest (strongly) that you put Badflower on your to-do list. On the show with BRKN Love and VIOLET NIGHT, Badflower is going to put it all out there at The Axis Club, and you should really be there to check out!

Dead Levee

Tuesday, June 6 @ The Wheatsheaf Tavern (667 King St W, Toronto)

Canadian rockers Dead Levee are headed to Toronto’s oldest bar to play rock and roll on a CMW Tuesday night and we’re into it. These fellas are stage ready at all times and Toronto needs to be ready for them when they show up with Mecca of Stank, The Jailbirds, Spendo and Neomi!

NIIVA

Friday, June 9 @ The Paddock Tavern (178 Bathurst St, Toronto)

Pop singer-songwriter, NIIVA is a treat, and she’s bringing herself and her show to The Paddock on a Friday night for a little CMW musical party. Be ready for Friends live, and stick around to see if there’s some new music from NIIVA that we can look forward to pushing her to the next level!

Texas King & Bleeker

Friday, June 9 @ The Great Hall (1087 Queen St W, Toronto)

Performing on the bill together, along with The Press, we’ve got Bleeker coming in with new music and Texas King coming off of a tour and back to CMW. We’ve seen Bleeker. We’ve seen Texas King. It’s fun. It gets sweaty. It’s rock and roll baby. Have fun!

Virginia to Vegas

Wednesday, June 7 @ The El Mocambo (464 Spadina Ave, Toronto)

Virginia to Vegas plays at the iHeart CMW kickoff party with Shawn Desman, Alyssa Reid, and Noelle. It’s a stacked card, but Derik is high on our list always, so he gets the hype this time around. It’s going to be a poppy good time at a cool venue!
