Country Thunder Humboldt Broncos Tribute Concert Announcement

The Canadian country music community is often compared to a family by the artists and industry members. And in the wake of the terrible tragedy that shook a small town and a nation, that family is coming together to honour and support the Humboldt Broncos.

Country Thunder, one of the largest country music festivals in Canada (as well as the United States), has teamed up with six of Canada’s brightest country stars to put together the Humboldt Broncos Tribute Concert. Scheduled for Friday, April 27 at SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon, the concert will bring Dallas Smith, Brett Kissel, Jess Moskaluke, Chad Brownlee, Gord Bamford, and the Hunter Brothers to the stage in a show that we’re glad to see happening, and saddened to know is needed.

In a press release announcing the concert, Country Thunder Music Festivals CEO, Troy Vollhoffer said, “Being from Saskatchewan, and with strong roots in the hockey community, we wanted to help and be there in any way possible. Saskatchewan is a very special place to be from, and the Country Thunder Foundation will support Humboldt through these difficult days.”

Tickets for the Humboldt Broncos Tribute Concert, presented by the Country Thunder Music Festivals Foundation are $65 each + taxes and fees and are available now via Ticketmaster. CLICK HERE to learn more and buy tickets.

All of the artists coming to Saskatoon for the tribute concert have changed plans, rerouted schedules, and made a special effort to be at the SaskTel Centre next Friday. It’s that effort that is to be commended and appreciated, though we know they won’t make a big deal out of it.

We asked Dallas Smith what it means to him to be involved, and he told us…

I’m so proud to be a part of this event along with my friends and peers. This tragedy weighs heavy on our hearts and in our minds and we are committed to helping do whatever we can for everyone affected. They say music heals, so we’re going to play our hearts out!!

To go with the music, the hockey community has stepped up with the donation of jerseys to be auctioned off in support of the families affected by this tragedy.

There will be approximately 30 NHL players and alumni at the tribute concert, and as per the auction’s description, “successful bidder(s) will have an opportunity to meet the player to have their jersey signed after the concert. Successful bidders not at the concert will be mailed their signed jersey.”.

Former NHLer and Lloydminster, Saskatchewan native, Colby Armstrong added this in the press release…

This concert is about coming together to support a community through an unspeakable tragedy. It is our hope that we can shoulder some of their sorrow and help with the healing process.

We also reached out to Saskatchewan native Jess Moskaluke to ask about being involved in the tribute concert and she told us…

The Humboldt tragedy hit really close to home for me, having grown up in a hockey community in small town Saskatchewan. As people, our hearts are all wanting to help. As artists, we know music can help heal, and we made a conscious decision to all get together to try and do just that.

Thank you to Jess and Dallas for sharing their thoughts about the concert and to all of the artists and hockey players who are contributing to this very worthy cause.

With the talent set to perform, and the emotion that is bound to fill the SaskTel Centre, we ‘re sure that this is going to be a special night of music and memories.
