New Music Spotlight with The Rolling Stones, Silverstein, Kyler Tapscott, Abigail Lapell, and Bankrupt

New Music from The Rolling Stones, Silverstein, Kyler Tapscott, Abigail Lapell, and Bankrupt

We’re deep in quarantine mode, and for many of us, that comes with time. Time to listen to and watch more music, perhaps.

In today’s New Music Spotlight I bring you some rock, some Americana, and more. The music comes from across the pond in the UK, here at home, and from Hungary.

Let’s do this!

Artist: The Rolling Stones
Hometown: London, UK
Genre: Rock
Related: The Who, Cream, The Doors
Song: Living In A Ghost Town
Notes: Surprise! The Rolling Stones dropped Living In A Ghost Town today. It’s the first original track from the band since 2012. The song was written before the lockdown, and according to Keith Richards, he was jamming on the guitar and wrote it in about 10 minutes. It’s a tiny bit eerie and a little portentous.

Artist: Silverstein
Hometown: Burlington, ON
Genre: Rock
Related: Hawthorne Heights, Story of the Year, From First To Last
Song: Madness
Notes: From their recently released album, A Beautiful Place To Drown, Madness hits hard. Expect screams, hard-rocking guitars, sinister drumming, and an appearance by NYC rapper, Princess Nokia.

“We’d seen Princess Nokia mention that she was a fan of ours and we had the chance to hang out last time we were in NYC and just hit it off. “Madness” was one of the early songs we had musically and it kept evolving until we knew it needed a strong female voice on it to put it over the top. The first person we thought of was Princess Nokia. She had an amazing take on the vibe and meaning of the song and absolutely killed the verse. She’s such a talented and kind person. It was amazing to collaborate with her.” – Shane Told (Silverstein vocalist)

Artist: Kyler Tapscott
Hometown: Harwood, ON
Genre: Indie-Folk, Americana
Related: Amanda Rheaume, The Hometown Beauts
Song: Home
Notes: Kyler’s recently recorded EP, Kyler, marks his debut as a solo artist, and showcases his talent not only as a guitarist but as a singer-songwriter, too. Produced by Darcy Yates of the Juno-winning band Bahamas, and featuring a lineup of Toronto’s top musicians, the album is an eclectic mix of influences, which range from rock to roots, John Mayer to Jamiroquai. Home highlights the singer’s voice brilliantly, with rich acoustic guitar and soft backing vocals. It’s a treasure.

Artist: Abigail Lapell
Hometown: Toronto, ON
Genre: Indie-Folk, singer-songwriter
Related: Rachel Baiman, Lula Wiles, Lizzie No
Song: Down By The Water
Notes: Down By The Water delivers delightful Celtic guitar sounds, a unique, captivating voice, lush harmonies, and a black and white boxing match. Do you need more? Yes? The video treatment is mesmerizing, and you should watch it!
