New Music Spotlight with Peter Katz, South of Eden, Crown Lands, Hanson, and Carly Pearce
In this Saturday edition of our New Music Spotlight, I’m highlighting music from Peter Katz, South of Eden, Crown Lands, Hanson, and Carly Pearce.
I’ll be hitting the folk, rock, pop, and country genres today.
Let’s do this!
Artist: Peter Katz
Hometown: Toronto, ON
Genre: Folk / Pop
Related: Jay Malinowski, Bahamas, Michael Bernard Fitzgerald
Song: Everything is Different / KMOTM
Notes: This week Peter Katz dropped two more tracks of his upcoming album, City of Our Lives. Everything is Different and KMOTM are almost opposites. Everything is Different is reflective and light, and KMOTM is dark and moody sounding. I couldn’t pick between them, so I dropped both into the post. Keep an eye out for the release of City of our Lives, physical album will be out October 23, and digital is out November 25.
“KMOTM came out of a place of missing human connection;” shares Peter. “I think I’ve always tried to be “good” and “do the right thing” in my life. To deal with every problem perfectly, not resort to vices or distractions, handle every situation “well”. But in this instance, I just wanted to channel that desire to be a bit more primal, give myself permission to be messy, and a bit dark. It’s not something that I’ve really put in my lyrics before so it feels like I’ve got to take a giant deep breath as I release this song, but I know it’s 100% authentic.”

Artist: South of Eden
Hometown: Columbus, OH
Genre: Rock
Related: Black Coffee, Them Evils, Crown Lands
Song: The Talk
Notes: I’d been teased on my facebook timeline about this track. The poster said this track would turn heads, he’s wasn’t wrong. Give it a listen. If there was ever any doubt, rock is back and it’s hot.

Artist: Crown Lands
Hometown: Oshawa
Genre: Rock
Related: Led Zeppelin, Greta van Fleet, Reignwolf
Song: Sun Dance
Notes: Did you really think I could let a new Crown Lands video happen without telling you? Their latest video release is a thing of beauty. There’s a softness, blended with their unique version of rock. Shot against the beauty of the horticultural glass dome, it’s full of light and green. Expect lens flares, haunting vocals, beautiful acoustic guitar and storytelling. It’s a winner.
The band have partnered with www.Wearth.farm to help the environment! 🌳 If you stream their album, you can help them plant trees, and you’ll have a chance to win some “sweet CL treats.”

Artist: Hanson
Hometown: Tulsa, OK
Genre: Indie / Rock / Pop
Related: Backstreet Boys, NSYNC, Savage Garden
Song: Dressed In Brown Eyes
Notes: Hanson dropped this fun rooftop acoustic performance video for Dressed in Brown Eyes. Looking for more Hanson? They’ve got a live-stream series coming up. It’ll be broadcast from the historic Cain’s Ballroom in Tulsa, OK, and there are limited in person tickets available.

Artist: Carly Pearce
Hometown: Taylor Mill, Kentucky
Genre: Country
Related: Tenille Townes, Cam, Lauren Alaina
Song: Next Girl
Notes: Quarantine is good for somethings. Carly Pearce has put together a hybrid country sound that draws on the roots and modern sounds. Collaborating with Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne, ace producer/songwriters she’s released another winner. You can expect this one to get stuck in your head. The only cure for that, play it on repeat!
